Update: Aug 4, 2008- Since this post was written we’ve added many new services and features to enhance ContentLink ads.  Read about them here.

Did you know there are ways to customize ContentLinks™ to your website?

We try our best to make the default settings for ContentLinks™ sensitive to the needs of both site visitors and publishers. Still, we know that to expect one setting to fit our growing number of publishers is impossible. Websites, like people, have a personality. Each has its own look & feel, good days and bad days, needs and moods that abide topeople.gif trends. Considering this, it is not surprising that each site has its own stronger and weaker points which are quite different than its neighbor. Where do we come in? We make sure ContentLinks™ can adapt and help to express the individuality of each site.

Here are a few things you may not know about optimization of ContentLinks™:

  • You can block a keyword or an advertiser you wish not to see on your website. Simply send an email to support@kontera.com with a list of the words or advertisers you would like to exclude, and we will be glad to take care of it for you. If it is an advertiser, please be sure to include the exact URL, otherwise the change may not go through correctly.
  • Use Filter tags and Zone tags to control the areas on a page where links appear. You can exclude ContentLinks™ from the sidebar, for example. To find out more about Filter tags and Zone tags, visit here.
  • Change the color of links! As we said before, each site has its own character and mood swings. Play a little with the color of links to find out which color brings the best results to your site. Some sites work best with links that stand out and others work better with links that match the text. There’s no exact formula for this but from our experience, links that catch the eye usually generate more clicks. Try for yourself and see. To make this change locate this line in your site code:
var dc_AdLinkColor = ‘blue’ ; and enter a new color or a hex code within the ‘ ‘ parameter. Example: for orange links change the line to: var dc_AdLinkColor = ‘orange’

Follow this link for a Hex Color Chart and don’t forget to monitor the CTR after making the change to ensure that this color does the job best!Recall that ContentLinks™ are In-Text ads. This means that the more textual content you have on your site, the better :-)
  • We offer plugins for quick implementation of ContentLinks™ for WordPress, Drupal and Joomla users.  Find out more.
  • Want to add your ContentLink tag to www.blogger.com?
No need for additional plugins. Follow these steps for quick implementation. Optimization Success
We are working constantly to expand the possibilities of ContentLinks™ and to allow you more control of your settings. In the meantime, use these tips for optimization and get the most out of your in-text advertising.
