BlogWorld was an important (and fun!) event. As one the panelists, Kontera’s VP, Product and Co-Founder, Assaf Henkin, had some interesting facts to share about the online marketing world today, with a special focus on the smart ways to monetize your blog.

But the best part for us was in getting to meet many of our partners face to face. This doesn’t happen often enough in the high-speed digital world.

A well known online entrepreneur and Kontera publisher, Joel Comm, has a few words to say about his experiences with Kontera. Get ready for a short video interview:

ContentLink™ in the Web 2.0 Era

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007
By Vered Avrahami

Kontera's Puzzle

Surfing the web with the aim of finding a standard definition for the term “Web 2.0” produces an abundance of information revolving around this issue. The one thing everyone seems to agree on is that this is the “User Generated Content” era. Blogs have a devoted readership, Forums have become a trustworthy resource for necessary advice, and users often spend as much time interacting in their Online Communities as they do with their friends. People spend longer hours online and this time is utilized for consuming information of personal value and interest. Our Internet experience has become personalized.

Publishers devote a great deal of time and effort to meet this trend. A great deal of attention is invested in the various aspects of managing a successful web site or a blog. These aspects include constant production of interesting new content, creation and maintenance of eye-catching design, traffic building and more. All this time and effort should rightfully be translated into income and therefore publishers usually divide their web-page real-estate between content and advertising. All this considered, has online advertising evolved to suit the market demand of the web 2.0 era? We believe that ContnetLink™ has.

The online advertising ecosystem is comprised of advertisers, publishers and users and ContentLink™ has proven beneficial to them all. Our technology enables advertisers to maximize their ROI while ensuring a high level of relevancy between keywords, ads, content and the user’s frame of mind. ContentLink™ provides users with information that is relevant to what they were searching thus enriching their user-experience. ContentLinks™ unique attributes enable it to achieve all the above while preserving publishers’ complete control over their sites. ContentLink™ simultaneously addresses the needs of all the members of the online advertising ecosystem – isn’t that the very essence of a Web 2.0 ad platform?

Kontera at San Francisco BIG iHack Golf Event

Thursday, December 13th, 2007
By Mike Glover

Kontera was proud to be among the sponsors of The SF BIG iHack Golf Event. Our Senior Vice President, Bryan Everett, wins one for the team.

SF BIG is the premier group of advertising professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kontera is a proud sponsor of the group and has employees who volunteer for the group to help plan events and work to help out in their industry.

The SF BIG iHack Golf Event was the most highly attended gathering of Bay Area interactive advertising professionals in the last 3 years. The exciting event was attended by all of the area’s top ad agencies media companies and technology providers on hand, including Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask. As a premium sponsor of the event, Kontera hosted 2 foursomes with guests from several leading ad agencies and online publishing companies. Kontera was well represented by a few members of the Business Development and Ad Sales teams as well Senior Vice President- Bryan Everett.

At the end of a day filled with many informal golf course meetings and news deals being struck, it was Kontera’s Bryan Everett who took home the day’s biggest prize on the par 3, third hole at Harding Park. Tremor Media was giving away a brand new iPhone for the golfer who struck their shot closest to the hole. With over 150 golfers vying for the prize, it was none other than Bryan Everett, who not only called his shot, but backed it up by knocking it just 4 feet away from the hole.

Keep an eye out for more posts about Kontera and SF BIG events.

Backstage Pass- An Interview with Gabi Peles, Kontera’s Senior Product Manager

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007
By Mika Tal

Welcome to the first in a series of interviews exposing Kontera from behind the scenes. In this series, we hope to achieve an inside look at Kontera’s services, products, and developments, from those who know it best, the people working day by day to push Kontera’s backstage happening.

Kontera’s Product UIGabi Peles, Sn. Product Manager

Gabi Peles is in charge of the overall management of products and services that define the meeting point between publishers and Kontera. Whether in the office or outside, Gabi loves a good challenge. In his spare time you’ll often find him engaged in a favorite hobby, kite surfing; we get worried so he usually doesn’t tell us beforehand :)

An interview with him reveals some exciting upcoming developments in Kontera’s products and publisher services:

  1. What is Kontera’s guiding principle in terms of developing a new product/service?
We put the user experience at the center. This means that we base any product development with the aim to meet the needs of the publisher.
This has to do with the central part of our development methods. When we plan and think a product, we make every effort to see from a user’s point of view. I believe this is the strength of ContentLinks™ and where it is crucial for us to stress our added value as a network.
  2. How do you obtain information on publisher needs?
Kontera’s network of publishers includes publishers of all sizes, from established websites to popular blogs and forums. The wide range of segmentation allows us to familiarize ourselves with different environments and subsequently to develop solutions for various publisher needs. It’s a stage for dynamic interaction with a variety of fields and the challenge is in meeting diverse needs.
  3. What would you say was this year’s greatest accomplishment in terms of ContentLinks™ development?
This year was big on relevancy- we reached new milestones regarding our capabilities of matching content with ads. I’m glad to point that our patent pending algorithm has brought ContentLinks™ to a new level of achievement. This is very exciting news since relevant ads and information are ContentLinks™’ core value.
  4. What are some new plans and offerings for publishers?
We are working to enable publishers more flexibility and greater control over their personal accounts. This will be expressed through added features and options of our ad layer. In the near future, publishers will be able to control many aspects of the product. The next stage will be to allow publishers additional features in multiple areas such as reporting, product visual features, ads, and information. This is a thrilling development that we are looking forward to set in motion.
  5. What do you have to say about Kontera as we look towards 2008?
2008 will be an exciting year. We are always aiming to refine and advance ContentLinks™, and with so many new things planned, it will surely be an interesting and creative time.

A few Words on the Use of Kontera alongside Other Ad Services

Thursday, December 6th, 2007
By Mika Tal

Kontera, advertising, in-text, blogThe dynamic world of online marketing is about trying out new things, experimenting with different opportunities. With the broad range of online advertising alternatives today, publishers have the chance to utilize multiple revenue streams to help drive up the yield per page. You can read more on the benefits of diversifying your site’s revenue sources here.

Can Kontera’s ContentLinks™ be placed alongside with other contextual ad networks?

Yes. ContentLinks™ have their own original look and feel which does not resemble the appearance of other ad units the market offers. Our ads serve as either primary or additional source of revenue for a site. Publishers who have started out with one ad service on their site agree that adding Kontera has helped to increase their revenue, while not taking away from their other income.

Can Kontera’s ContentLinks™ be placed on the same site with other In-Text services?

We require that our publishers use Kontera ContentLink as their exclusive source of In-Text Advertising. Experience had taught us that placing ContentLinks™ alongside with other In Text ads will not reflect the full monetary potential of our product. Upon using Kontera’s ContentLinks™, we ask that you allow our product the best circumstances to show its fullest results.
