Kontera’s Angela Participates in LLS Fund Raising Marathon in Anchorage

I ran the Mayor’s Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). My cousin, Kacey, has stage 4 Hodgkin Lymphoma and is still alive due to new treatments found by funding from the LLS. Kontera and Kontera employees helped contribute to the success in saving lives and raising $4,000 for this race. This is my third marathon and I’ve raised about $10,000 over the past 4 years for the LLS. A huge thank you to all who contributed and are helping save lives, including my cousin’s.

Anyone can participate in the Mayor’s Marathon but the LLS consisted of 50% of the participants. I did not win. In fact, the winner finished the 26.2 mile run in 2 hours 36 minutes. That is just under a 6 minute mile pace for the entire 26.2 miles! I will not disclose my time as I didn’t run it for time but for the cause and friendships. Let’s just say I finished hours after the winner!! Many people along the run saw bears and moose but all I saw was what they left behind. There were miles along beautiful Alaskan trails. There was also a 9 mile stretch of gravel! That was very difficult to run on and not hurt yourself. My Mom and Aunt ran miles 13-19 with me then went to meet me at the finish line. Overall, it was my favorite marathon so far and I am looking forward to cheering on Jennifer McHugh, Kontera’s Sr. Marketing Manager, as she participates in raising money and training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training this season. She will be running the Nike Women’s Marathon (or Half Marathon) on October 19, 2008 in San Francisco!
